Empty Leg Flights from Pendleton
When a jet has to reposition with no one aboard, that one-way leg can carry you. We track open repositioning flights, confirm which operator holds control of the aircraft and give you an all-inclusive quote, so you know the price and the rules before you commit.
What an empty leg is, and when it fits your trip
Charter aircraft rarely end a trip where they started. A jet that drops passengers in Florida still has to get back to its base, and a jet based in Ohio may need to reach Indianapolis to pick up its next group. Those repositioning segments are the empty legs. The operator is flying them anyway, so the seat price is tied to a flight that already exists.
What you give up is say over the details. Another client's charter already fixes which aircraft flies, the path it takes and the approximate hour it leaves. If your schedule can flex by a few hours or a day, and your destination matches or sits close to the leg, an empty leg is often the sensible choice. If you need a fixed time and a specific airport, a standard charter such as our Light Jet Charter or Midsize Jet Charter is the better call.
The rules matter here too. A repositioning leg flown with no passengers can operate under general FAA operating rules. Once paying passengers board, the flight has to meet commercial charter requirements: crew duty limits, pilot qualification, maintenance standards and operational control by a certificated carrier. We explain which rules apply to the leg you are looking at, in plain terms, before you book.
What we handle on an empty leg booking
Finding legs that match your route
We look at repositioning flights moving toward or away from the area and match them against your departure window and destination. That includes legs that land within a reasonable drive of where you are headed.
Operator and aircraft checks
We confirm who holds operational control of the flight, the aircraft type and its seating. You hear which company is actually flying you, not just a tail number on a list.
An all-inclusive quote
Your quote lists the seat price, applicable federal taxes and segment fees, and any FBO or landing charges. No hidden costs show up on departure day.
Passengers, bags and pets
We check passenger count against the cabin, baggage space against your luggage and confirm pet arrangements. Pets are allowed, and we make sure the operator knows in advance.
A backup plan
Because an empty leg depends on another charter, we discuss what happens if that trip moves. We can quote a one-way charter on demand as a fallback so you are not left stranded.

When an empty leg makes sense
- Your trip goes in one direction
- With point to point pricing, a one-direction trip is never billed at round trip pricing. Every empty leg is a one-way flight to begin with.
- You have room in your schedule
- Allowing several hours, or either of two days, brings many more legs into play. The tighter your timing, the lower the chance a repositioning flight matches.
- A smaller cabin suits your group
- Light and midsize jets make up most open legs, so groups of four to seven tend to find the widest choice.
- You would rather not sign up for anything
- Booking an empty leg carries no long term commitment. Fly the legs that work for you and pass on the others.
How an empty leg booking runs
- 1
Tell us the trip
By phone, give us your origin, destination, passenger count, bags, pets and the widest window you can accept. Nearby airports count, so mention if Anderson or the Indianapolis area works as well as Pendleton.
- 2
We search and screen
We review repositioning legs that fit and drop any where the operator, aircraft or timing does not hold up. You hear about the realistic options, not every listing.
- 3
Quote and confirmation
You get an all-inclusive quote by phone with the operator, aircraft and departure window spelled out. Once you confirm, we lock the seat with the operator and go over the trip details with you.
- 4
Departure day
You arrive at the FBO, usually 15 to 30 minutes before departure, meet the crew and board. No terminal lines, and WIFI equipped aircraft are available on many legs if you need to work aloft.
What sets the price of an empty leg
An empty leg is priced against what the operator saves by filling a flight that would otherwise earn nothing. That makes it lower than a dedicated charter in many cases, but several things still move the number. We list each one in your quote.
- Aircraft size
- A turboprop or light jet costs less to operate per hour than a super-midsize or heavy jet, and the empty leg price follows that.
- How close the departure is
- Operators often lower the price as the date nears and the seat is still open. Waiting can save money but narrows the choice.
- Route changes
- Asking to land at a different airport or add a stop changes the flight time and fuel burn, so the price moves with it.
- Taxes and airport charges
- Federal excise tax, segment fees, FBO handling and landing fees apply to passenger flights. In Indiana winters, deicing can add a charge when the aircraft sits outside in freezing rain or snow.
Empty leg questions
- Can an empty leg be cancelled after I book it?
- Yes. If the original charter changes its date or cancels, the repositioning leg can move or disappear. We tell you that up front and can quote a one-way charter as a backup if your trip cannot slip.
- Can the departure time be changed?
- Sometimes, by a few hours, if the operator's next trip allows it. The aircraft has to reach its next pickup on time and the crew has to stay within duty limits, so large changes are rarely possible.
- Is an empty leg held to the same standards as a regular charter?
- Once you are aboard as a paying passenger, the flight must meet the same commercial charter rules as any other charter: crew rest, pilot training and maintenance requirements. We confirm which carrier holds operational control before you book, so you know who is responsible for the flight.
- Can I bring my dog?
- Yes, pets are allowed. On the phone, let us know how many animals are coming and roughly how big each one is. That way the operator can sign off ahead of time and we can plan where they ride in the cabin.
- Do I have to buy the whole aircraft?
- In most cases you book the full aircraft for that leg, not a single seat. That keeps the cabin private for your group, and the all-inclusive quote covers everyone aboard.
